As the largest network of young professionals in Arizona, Tucson Young Professionals seeks to build a prosperous community where all have an opportunity to thrive. We provide programming, events and services around three pillars: Connection, Growth, and Advocacy.

Our Advocacy Committee considers the impact of community issues aligned with our members’ priorities and then votes to take public positions on them. Those positions are then approved by the full Board of Directors. This year, that process has led us to take positions on one proposition on the ballot in November: Proposition 138.

At TYP, we are committed to supporting policies that not only bolster economic development but also provide meaningful, long-term solutions to the challenges our community faces. Prop 138 offers a proactive way to enhance business competitiveness and job growth, by striking a balance, allowing tipped workers to be paid 25% less per hour than the minimum wage, provided their tips bring their earnings to at least the minimum wage plus $2 per hour. This ensures that employees receive fair compensation, while giving businesses—especially in the hospitality sector—the flexibility to manage labor costs effectively.

Voting Yes on Prop 138 promotes economic development in Tucson by helping small businesses remain competitive, keeping operating costs manageable, and supporting job creation. When businesses thrive, they are better equipped to reinvest in our local economy, attract more patrons, and grow opportunities for workers and entrepreneurs alike.

At TYP, we believe that a vibrant local economy benefits everyone, and Prop 138 is a practical step toward a prosperous future for Tucson that supports businesses and workers alike.

Vote YES on Prop 138.
